White Coat Campaign: We’re almost there!
Through the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation’s White Coat Campaign, every incoming student receives their first white coat and a note of encouragement from the physician who sponsored their coat. The white coat ceremonies are rapidly approaching, and we still need sponsors for about 10 students.

It’s so much more than a coat
Thomas Zoch, MD, has participated in the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation’s White Coat Campaign for the past few years, sponsoring four students each year. For him, it’s less about the coats, and more about making sure that students feel supported.

Meeting unmet health care needs
The Foundation has supported several initiatives over the years to increase access for individuals who experience barriers to health care including lack of insurance, housing instability and language barriers. One such program currently supported by a Foundation grant is the Madison Area Care for the Homeless OneHealth (MACH1).

Foundation fellowship examines correlation between housing instability and health care needs of children in out-of-home care
Each year, the number of children in out-of-home care (foster care) continues to rise. As of May 31, 2019, the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families reports more than 8000 children in out-of-home care. A medical student fellowship project funded by the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation aims to build on well-established associations between unstable housing and health outcomes.
